In May 08, 2011, Sawf News - reported Aishwarya Rai has signed on as protagonist in Madhu Bhandarkar's Heroine. The film will be officially announced at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday May 13 by producers UTV.
Bhandarkar is best known for his films "Chandni Bar" (2001), "Page 3" (2005), "Traffic Signal" (2007) and "Fashion," a 2008 movie starring Priyanka Chopra about the Indian fashion industry.
Heroine (Hindi: हेरोइन) is an upcoming Indian film co - written and directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. The film has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing the central character of that of a once successful film actress Mahi Khanna, whose career is on the decline. Though speculated to be based on the lives of yester year divas like Madhubala and Marilyn Monroe, Bhandarkar has denied the reports saying that the movie is a “contemporary film which reveals the underbelly of the movie industry and its well-kept secrets.” Bhandarkar himself said that he considers the movie his magnum opus.
Bhandarkar had earlier approached Kareena Kapoor to play the protagonist, but the two had a falling apart over the script. Kareena reportedly had reservations over some steamy scenes as well as the parallels between the protagonist's life and her own relationship with Saif Ali Khan and his children from ex-wife Amrita Singh.
Reports that Bhandarkar had approached Aishwarya to play the lead first appeared in March.
On April 15, Madhur Bhandarkar clarified over Twitter:
"Media speculation bout me doing nxt film 'HEROINE'. Jst 2 clear, Nothing final yet. M working on 2-3 scripts & will decide soon wat 2 make,"
A release date for "Heroine" is yet to be set.
Aishwarya Rai is most beautiful Indian actress was born 1 November 1973 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Her mother, Brindya Rai, and her father, Krishnaraj Rai. She has one elder brother, Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy and has also co-produced one of her movies, Dil Ka Rishta (2003).
When she was young her parents moved to Mumbai where she attended the Arya Vidya Mandir High School in Santa Cruz Rai did her intermediate at DG Ruparel College, Matunga, Bombay and later pursued a course on Architecture at Raheja College.She planned to become an architect but gave up her education to pursue a career in modelling.

In 2002 she appeared in Bhansali's Devdas, for which she won her second Filmfare Best Actress Award.
After a setback in her career during 2003–2005, she appeared in Dhoom 2 (2006), which turned out to be her biggest commercial success in India. She later appeared in films like Guru (2007), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), and Enthiran (2010) which were commercially and critically successful. Rai has thus established herself as one of the leading actresses in Bollywood. In 2009, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
Aishwarya is Hindu and deeply religious. Her favourite temple is a 200-year-old Lord Ganesha Temple. Rai is married to actor Abhishek Bachchan. Their engagement was announced on 14 January 2007 and later confirmed by his father, Amitabh Bachchan.The couple got married on 20 April 2007 according to traditional Hindu rites of the Bunt community to which she belongs. Token North Indian and Bengali ceremonies were also performed. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence "Prateeksha" in Juhu, Mumbai. They have been cited as a supercouple in the Indian media.Rai has been very close to her family and lived with them in Bandra, Mumbai, until her marriage.
